'If my people, who are called by my Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land'. 2 Chronicles 7:14
The Prayer Shield for Northern Ireland is a development from the Belfast Prayer Shield, initiated a couple of years ago through Divine Healing Ministries, to provide a daily prayer cover over the city. Last year this was extended to cover Northern Ireland. A wide range of churches is involved in covering specific days of each month.
This year the Presbyterian congregations in County Down have been allocated two days - Ards Presbytery, the second Wednesday of the month; rest of County Down, the second Monday of each month. Individuals are asked to commit to a minimum of 15 minutes prayer on that day (in their own home at any convenient time) for the local community and for Northern Ireland. A list of suggested prayer topics is provided.
One person in each congregation acts as liaison to Dr Kelvin McCracken (02897 564699) who has undertaken to be the County Down link with the organising committee. Almost all the Presbyterian ministers (ie approximately 80) have agreed to encourage this within their local congregations and returns to date, from within congregations, have been encouraging.
Currently, about 25 people in First Presbyterian, Ballynahinch, have signed up but let us have more!!!
