Born and bred in Belfast. Educated at Methodist College, Stranmillis College & Manchester University. Qualified Teacher of the Deaf. Taught in the School for the Deaf, formerly on Lisburn Road, in Belfast and later at Jordanstown - 1959-67. In September 1967 I became Superintendent of the Kinghan Mission to the Deaf and in October I entered Assembly's College (as it was then) to become a Presbyterian Minister. I was ordained in 1972 as Minister of the Kinghan Church and remained there until 2003.

When I retired, Pearl and I set up home in Donaghadee. It would have made sense to have joined a local church but for various reasons we were drawn to Ballynahinch. I met David and Mairisine first in 1995 when they attended a course for Church leaders hosted by the Kinghan Church. I met Mairisine again when we planned a similar course in Ballynahinch. During the time Mairisine was ill I helped with some Pastoral Visiting and occasional preaching prior to my retirement. In September 2003 I offered to do some work within First and eventually Pearl and I felt God was calling us to join First. We joined in January 2004.

We are very happy in First and the members have made us most welcome: we feel as though we have always belonged. It is well worth the journey from Donaghadee. For me, ministry in a "hearing" church is very different from working in a "deaf" church, and I feel that I have so much to learn. We hope that God will use us in some way to help build His church in First.
