Changes to Previous System:-

Ensuring compliance with current Child Protection Regulations- an important issue.

How?: We have employed a rota system for leaders in a conscious effort to staff all areas to the correct levels under CP guidelines. The rota has also allowed the leaders to move to all activity areas and get to know the children more quickly. The Master's Commission.has proved an invaluable resource to help out with this aim.

Provide a safer environment for children.

How?: We performed a basic risk assessment at the start of the year. As a result, we have installed a safety net which shields the children playing games on the stage area from the footballers.

Some sporadic trouble has erupted from passing crowds of young people (usually around home time). As a result, we now staff the door at all times, keeping it locked from 8.30pm onwards. The police have been notified on several occasions and have provided some assistance; however, their resources are stretched and repeated support is lacking. Recently we have begun to staff the gate at home time, only allowing groups to leave as their lifts arrive. This has improved the situation, but more older male volunteers would be of great benefit to help with this. The main problem arises when children are expected to walk home on their own as some parents prefer - this needs to be addressed.
