At the start of my fourth month it is timely to reflect on the past and look to the future. My time so far has been about settling in and getting to know those around. I have found First Ballynahinch to be welcoming and encouraging.….. so thank you!
The young people here are very talented and fun to be around. I am enjoying getting to know them more and more. They inspire me in the work that I do and I look forward to the times that are ahead. (Philippians 3 v 12 - 14).
So the question of 'what do you do?' has arisen many times. I know that it is hard to see what a youth worker could do apart from play computer games and drink coffee.
However, I dislike both so let me tell you some of what I do instead…..
- Plan Fusion, Youth Church
- Help lead at Fusion, Youth Club, Youth Church
- Check in with the leaders of our various activities
- Take assemblies in the local schools
- Take lessons in the primary school
- Take Christian Union in the Ballynahinch High School
- Co-ordinate the Kairos Youth Event
- Plan monthly events, eg Valentine's Meal, Mission Possible
- Meet with individual young people
- Organise trips
- Member of the Edge Board
In this job each week is different, but one thing that remains the same is that I long to build God's Kingdom. My focus at present is to develop the biblical knowledge that the young people have and to build community; this is worked out in a variety of ways.
Thank you for your continued prayers for the youth and the people who work with them. In today's society the work amongst young people is not about individuals but the body of Christ.
Each of us must play our part if we are to see united and outward looking disciples of Jesus, who desire to do God's will.
Without the younger church, the older church perishes. Without the older church, the younger church perishes.
