Another year - another report! This year saw us say goodbye, not only to some of our older Rainbows as they moved on to Brownies, but also to two of our young leaders, Fiona and Heather. Firstly, Fiona decided that the pressure of AS Levels meant her cutting back on some
things and unfortunately Rainbows was one of them. We wish her well in her studies and thank her for all her help in the past and for the ideas she still comes up with. We were pleased for Heather when she was accepted onto the Master's Commission course but sorry that it meant her taking a year out from Rainbows. We really miss her wacky sense of humour and particularly her input into our games and look forward to her rejoining us in September 05.
We were very pleased when Megan McKee who had been with us as part of her Silver Duke of Edinburgh, decided to remain while Claire Scott is now working towards her full leader's warrant.
Enough of the leaders! What about the Rainbows? January saw the first outing of our new Rainbow flag at the annual Youth Service. February then saw us at the Spa for the Thinking Day event - fun and games, crafts and food were the order of the day as we celebrated Guiding across the world. As the news spread of changes to the Rainbow programme we worked hard at the Rainbow Bob Badges so that the older girls could complete as many of them as possible
before the new badge scheme was introduced. We were delighted when most of the girls completed at least two badges with everyone receiving their Bible Badge, having worked together for it in the weekly meetings. We use lots of craft materials etc in Rainbows and our thanks must go to Jackie Scott who shelved one of the cupboards in the activity room, finally giving the Rainbow box a permanent home and releasing us from having to carry everything we use to and from each meeting.
September and October saw big changes to Rainbows - a few girls as usual moved up to Brownies before our unit doubled in size with new members and we presently have 14 girls who regularly attend on Tuesday evenings. We also said goodbye to our familiar green tabard as many of the girls began to wear the distinctive red tracksuit, which becomes compulsory uniform from September 05. A new song to learn (eventually), new books, a whole new programme to put in place and new badges to work for have hopefully meant something for everybody to enjoy on Tuesdays.
Finally our thanks must go to the girls themselves who remain enthusiastic each week and to the Mums and Dads who support the unit in so many ways.
