During 2004 the main committee met six times with the sub- committees meeting as required. As you will be aware the manse sub-committee has been busy working to resolve the manse situation. Since putting the manse on the market in February 2003 a number of interested parties made acceptable offers only to be withdrawn when various surveys had been completed.
With this in mind, and wanting to move forward with the manse, the committee took a new recommendation to the congregation at an EGM on the 7 October 2004. This recommendation, to demolish the existing manse and seek planning permission for a replacement dwelling on the site of 14 Church Road, was passed by a substantial majority of the congregation who attended the meeting. The committee, on behalf of the congregation, then had to seek permission from both Presbytery and Union Commission. With this being granted our next task was to appoint an architect and as I write this report they are preparing initial sketch drawings of various designs for our consideration.
This year we also had some work done to the sexton's house with oil fired central heating being installed, new double glazed pvc windows and new kitchen units fitted.
As in previous years the maintenance of the halls was considered with the two areas addressed this year being the main hall floor and the youth room. Once again the committee thanks
Mr Jackie Scott and his volunteers for doing this work.
In September we had the appointment of Miss Clare Hill as our Director of Youth Ministry. The committee welcomes Clare into our church family and looks forward to seeing the fruits of her work with our young people and youth leaders, both within our church and the local community.
September also saw the start of the Master's Commission course and the committee appreciates the sacrifice Lloyd, Brenda and Hunter Rindels have made in coming to Ballynahinch to set up and run this course for the initial 2 - 3 years. We welcome them, the 19 students and the two interns, Erica and Michael, into the church family of 1st Ballynahinch.
The Church office has now been moved to the minister's room and with the increased work load it was decided to update the PC system and to purchase a laptop computer for use with the data projector.
On behalf of the committee I thank Rev Stanfield for her leadership and vision for God's work in this place and look forward to the challenges of the year ahead.
